Ok that last one was just to cover the gamer adhd demographic, hes alright though

AND THATS ALL THEY’ll EVER BE

But what the hell is going on? When did the DSM5 become the tourground for my favourite artists? Hello?

That’s question 1.

Answer 1. Mentally Ill = Creative supergenius

To the extent that people are just like this, and we have decided to put label on certain clusters of behaviour, these people have become amazing artists with these behaviours. Is there a correlation?

I mean yeah. Although I believe that everyone can access creativity within themselves and with enough passion and practise anyone can make something beautiful and meaningful. Even Jimmy, if he suddenly stopped being Mr. Beast and became an intrinsically motivated  painter or something. How cool would that be?

Answer 1, side tangent a. Workflow & Talent

Fuck Talent, hone your craft and follow your bliss. Talent isn’t a prerequisite for art. It helps! But a good workflow is just as much part of it. There are people who start their craft late in life, or work at it for 30 years before they started getting recognition for it. Painter Agnes Martin painted her whole life until she reached her creative workflow. She takes pure abstract feelings, ashuing frontal cortex ‘ideas’ altogether, and uses gridlike lines to paint ‘brain images’ of emotion. And she paints every day. And she regularly cuts up paintings that don’t turn out right to try again. WORKFLOW! WORK ON YOUR WORKFLOW!

Awnser 2. The product isn’t the art, the product is the soul

People form parasocial relations with artists. People read artist’s tweets. People read artist’s wikipedia page. Why the fuck do they do that? You liked a piece of art, when did the creators personal life get involved in this?

Question 2. Should you become mentally ill because the cool artists are doing it

No.
