Out of ConTroll!

Out of ConTroll is a chaotic and competitive combat racing game for 2 to 4 players. The goal is to eliminate your fellow trolls and be the first troll to get 8 points..

My Responsibilities:

  • Concept Egg Flashbang Powerup
  • Producted and Mixed all Sound Effects, Picked out music
  • Designed the main menu UI
  • Created Feature Specs for the Egg Flashbang and Melon Landmine powerup
  • Organized Playtests

Powerup Diagrams & Flowcharts

I delivered clear design documentation in the form of diagrams and flowcharts for the powerups in the game. These kept the team aligned on their intent and functionality.


Audio Implementation

I was responsible for the audio of the game. I initially wanted to use FMOD to do so, but using third-party software wasn’t preferred by the team so I used Unreal’s Metasounds, which was extremely useful in creating dynamic Car Engine sounds.


UI Concepting

I delivered a concept which would turn into the final art of the title screen

Reception

We recieved a warm reception during BUAS playday. People jumped into hotseat games and enjoyed demolishing eachother with the powerups.

Takeaways

This being the first big team project I was on, I learnt a LOT about project management and working within a large team. My impulse to try and be helpful to everyone was welcome, but needed to be used constructively to get concrete and deeper results. A general “support” role is helpful in the context of already having jurisdiction over a task.

I also learnt that I need to stretch my wings out and trust that I can do things. A large team is intimidating at first but recognizing the power each one of us, including me, is key to using it.
